1951: A Second Campaign

By January 1951, people in Saskatchewan realize that subscriptions collected in 1944-1945 are not enough, given the cost of construction for the stations in St. Boniface and Edmonton. A second subscription campaign is organized, led by Raymond Denis. Among his allies in organizing the campaign is Roland Pinsonneault from Gravelbourg. He recalls the campaign (audio). It's an ambitious objective, $250,000. And not everyone wants to contribute. Some Francophones are assimilated, others think that the cause is too closely tied to religion or to the ACFC, with which they have some issues. Father Ducharme tells the story (audio). In spite of everything, the campaign is a real success ($340,000 is raised) and gives the lie to the birds of ill omen who condemned French radio in Saskatchewan.

Raymond Denis divides the province into two zones for the campaign, north and south. The two zones are in turn divided into a dozen regions which have a fixed amount to raise. Roland Pinsonneault talks of recruiting parish assistants in each of the regions to handle receipt of the donations.
